Why convert HEIC to WebP
- Publishing iPhone photos on a website or blog where WebP is the standard.
- Storing a large iPhone library on an Android phone without the JPG size penalty.
- Uploading to a CMS or app that accepts WebP but not HEIC.
How to convert HEIC to WebP in ConvertX
- 1
Open Image Converter
On the Home screen tap Image Converter.
- 2
Select your HEIC files
Tap "Select image files" and pick the HEIC images (.heic, .heif). On desktop you can also drag them in from Explorer or Finder.
- 3
Choose WebP as the target
In the output format list choose WebP.
- 4
Optional settings
Add a rename pattern (use {name} for the original file name), turn on "Keep photo details" if you want camera and location data copied into WebP, and pick an output folder (Android default: Pictures/ConvertX).
- 5
Start the batch
Tap "Convert N images". The Queue opens and processes them in order; you can stop one file or the whole batch.
- 6
Find the results
When the batch finishes, the summary shows the files converted and the space saved. Tap View Library to browse them, or find them in the output folder.
What to know before you convert
- WebP is lossy at the quality you choose; Balanced gives files close to the HEIC's size.
- Some older desktop software still can't open WebP. If the file is going to someone else, JPG is the safer choice.
- Android 9 or later only; desktop builds don't open HEIC.
- Location and camera details are stripped unless "Keep photo details" is on; WebP can carry them.

HEIC: Apple's default photo format since 2017. Half the size of JPG, opens in few places outside Apple. WebP: Google's web format: about a third smaller than JPG, with optional transparency and lossless mode.
Nothing is uploaded
ConvertX converts on the device. There is no server, no account and no file size or count limit beyond your storage. Location and camera details are removed from every output unless you turn on "Keep photo details" (WebP can carry them).
Frequently asked questions
Will the WebP be smaller than the HEIC?
About the same at Balanced quality; smaller at Strong. HEIC's HEVC compression is very efficient, so don't expect large savings over it.
WebP or JPG for iPhone photos?
WebP if the photos go to the web or stay on your phone; JPG if you're sending them to people whose software you don't control.
Can I do this on a PC?
Not with ConvertX today: desktop builds have no HEIC decoder. Convert on Android, then move the files.
