Privacy policy

This policy covers the ConvertX apps for Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, and this website.

1. Your images never leave your device

ConvertX converts, compresses and resizes images entirely on the device it runs on. The apps have no account system and no server for files. No image, file name, thumbnail or output is ever transmitted to us or to anyone else by the app. On Android, HEIC files are decoded by the operating system's own decoder, also on the device.

By default the apps remove location (GPS) and camera metadata from every output file. If you turn on "Keep photo details", that metadata is copied into JPG, PNG and WebP output files you create; it is still never sent anywhere by the app.

2. Desktop apps (Windows, macOS, Linux)

The desktop apps show no ads, contain no analytics and make no network requests. They collect no personal data of any kind.

3. Android app: no ads, no analytics, no network

The Android app shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking SDK. It does not request the Internet permission, so it cannot send anything over the network: no usage data, no Advertising ID, no device identifiers. Links to the privacy policy and support open in your own browser or email app.

4. Data we do not collect

5. Permissions

The apps use the system file picker, so they need no broad storage permission. On Android 13 and later the app asks for permission to show a notification while a batch runs in the background; on Android 14 and later that batch runs as a foreground service of type "data sync". The Android app does not request the Internet permission.

6. This website

This site is static. It sets no cookies of its own. If analytics is enabled on the site, Google Analytics 4 is loaded with IP anonymisation and records page views and clicks on download links. Links to Google Play and to installer files lead to third-party services with their own policies.

7. Children

ConvertX is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.

8. Changes and contact

Changes to this policy are posted on this page with a new date. Questions: the contact page.
