Remove location and EXIF data from photos before you share them

Every phone photo carries the GPS position it was taken at, the device model and the exact time. Messaging apps strip some of it; email, cloud links and marketplaces often don't. ConvertX removes it by default when converting or compressing, on the device, so the photos never pass through anyone's server to be cleaned.

What gets removed

GPS latitude, longitude and altitude; camera make and model; lens, exposure and software tags; the original timestamp; embedded thumbnails. The pixels and the correct orientation are kept: ConvertX applies the rotation tag to the image before dropping it, so photos don't come out sideways.

What "Keep photo details" does

Turning it on copies the EXIF block into JPG, PNG and WebP output. AVIF, BMP and TIFF output never carry EXIF in ConvertX. Use it for your own archive, not for sharing.

Why do it on the device

An online "EXIF remover" has to receive the photo, location and all, before it can remove anything. Doing it locally means the data is never transmitted in the first place.

Step by step

  1. 1

Open Image Converter or Image Compressor

Either tool strips metadata; use the compressor if you also want smaller files.

  2. 2

    Select the photos

Tap "Select image files" and pick everything you plan to share.

  3. 3

    Leave "Keep photo details" off

That is the default. The description under it reads: location and camera details are removed; photos keep their correct rotation.

  4. 4

    Choose the format

JPG to keep the same format, or WebP for smaller files.

  5. 5

    Run and share the results

Tap "Convert N images". Share the files from the Library; the originals are untouched.

Are the originals changed?

No. ConvertX writes new files; the originals stay as they were.

Can I check that the data is gone?

Open the result in a gallery app's details view: no location, no camera model.
